I know this is not an Atlanta Falcons story about a former Falcon Player, but as a resident of Washington, DC as an Atlanta transplant, I had to post this story about the Hall of Famer Willie Wood. Growing up in Atlanta playing Pop Warner Football and High School Football at Northside High School during the 60’s and 70’s, Willie Wood was a mentor and outstanding NFL Player! This is my tribute to the player and the man, Willie Wood!

Willie Wood, a Hall of Fame safety for the Green Bay Packers, was honored Wednesday when a block in the Northwest neighborhood of his childhood was renamed for him.Friends & Family of Willie Wood, a support group for the 75-year-old Wood, who suffers from dementia and football injuries, lobbied city officials to add Wood’s name to the N Street NW block that meets a corner with First Street NW.
